Vilanova i La Geltru is a medium city on the coast, about 50 kms to Barcelona. You can reach BCN either by train, Bus or car in about 50 minutes. There is a nice beach on Vilanova but it is not exactly a Hollyday resort.
Anyway, I recommend you to stay better in Sitges than in Vilanova. Sitges is a lovely place. Very crowded during summer but with beautiful beaches and a wonderful old town.
